What is Your Child Wearing?
By Wendy Pittman, Founder and Creative Director for My Boughie Baby™

Dressing your child age appropriately during these fashion-forward times can be a bit challenging as a parent.

Not only do children want to fit in and look “cool” like their friends, but clothing retailers have flooded the market with trends that make your average 10 year-old look as though she's a college freshman. Sadly, it's not uncommon to see young girls with loads of makeup, jeans below the waistline and high heels or a young boy with facial piercings and underwear falling out of their pants.

As parents it's our responsibility to teach, guide and direct--we must sensor the images our children send to the world.

It can be especially difficult for parents when teen style icons portray images that are too sexual and inappropriate; this makes our job all the more difficult as parents. Fortunately, there are ways around this- start them young in showing them what good looks like in terms of appropriate dress with their style, if possible!

Children will mature and start realizing their own personal style, but if you steer them in the right direction while young, you can expect to keep them on track. It's also, worth mentioning that's it's important for you as the parent to be a good role model. Children look up to their parents and will often model their lives in some form of what is taught or accepted in the home. Thankfully, you have some controls in place because what they wear by in-large is purchased by you.

If, you’re dealing with a teen who is beginning to purchase their own clothing remember you are the parent and you set the bar of appropriateness. Enforce these rules and don’t give in--attitudes will often pass. Bear in mind, there are ways for them to express themselves, fit in, and look cool that does not involve dressing inappropriately. Take a look at some of these photos for cute and appropriate ideas that will excite you and your child.

Wendy Pittman - In addition to being an accomplished businesswoman, Wendy is also, a mother to eight-year-old Tiffani Rae.  When shopping for her daughter’s  wardrobe Wendy found that the clothing was too mature or too pink for her and her daughter’s taste.  Inspired by both this poor selection of clothing for young girls and Tiffani Rae’s own unique style, Wendy launched My Bougie Baby™ in early 2011.  Again, Wendy listens to what her customers have to say and has heard the opinions of young fashionistas and their mothers who want stylish, but tasteful fashions for their daughters.  Wendy is now applying her years of business development, marketing and sales experience to the fashion world where she plans to continue to develop strong client relationships and deliver the products they adore.
